MBABANE:Mlungisi Makhanya, the President of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) has blasted Education and Training Minister Owen Nxumalo for discouraging protests in the country.
Speaking to this Swaziland News when asked to comment about the Education Minister’s statements made at Ngwane Park High School on Monday morning, Makhanya said Nxumalo as a former trade union leader, “knows is fully aware that protesting is one of the most effective” ways to communicate a message and demand services from a Government.
“It is ridiculous particularly coming from someone who has a history of protesting as you would know that, Owen was among those who represented workers and one of the methods that workers use to raise their grievances, is to peacefully protest”, said the PUDEMO President.
Makhanya urged young people not to listen to the Education Minister saying, in a country ruled by an autocratic Government like the Tinkhundla regime, protesting is one of the most effective ways to demand services and accountability.
