MBABANE:Roman Chowdhury, an Asian businessman appeared with the royal “ligwalagwala” symbol during a recent traditional event.

The Asian first appeared with “emasondvo” on numerous occasions before elevating to ligwalagwala, he has been attending cultural events including Lusekwane, Incwala and Butimba.

Efforts were made by this Swaziland News to reach the Asian for a comment but his cellphone rang unanswered.

But it remains unclear if the Asian has been adopted by the royal family through “kufakwa esiswini as most of the time he is seen with King’s Private Secretary Mbongeni Simelane wearing a full traditional attire including the royal ligwalagwala”.

Reached for comments by this publication, King Mswati’s Spokesperson said Ligwalagwala is exclusively reserved for members of royal family, he then denied that, the Asian has been adopted and clarified that the businessman could have been influenced by ignorance.

“Our experience is that the red feather(ligwalagwala) is an exlusivity for members of the royal family. Out of ignorance though other people now dorn the feather in question. We have no reasons to believe adoption by royalty could result in the spilling of the birth right to dorn ligwalagwala into other families,” he said.
