MBABANE:Bawinile Ndlovu, the President of the National Public Services and Allied Workers Union(NAPSAWU) has confirmed that some civil servants might receive salary back-payment including allowances after the implementation of the salary review.
Speaking to this Swaziland News on Tuesday, Ndlovu said, a civil servant whose salary has been increased from ten thousand Rands(R10,000.00) to fifteen thousand Rands(R15,000.00) might receive over thirty thousand Rands(R30,000.00) back-pay including the increased housing allowances. She said as some of the housing allowances have been increased from six hundred Rands(R600,00) to two thousand Rands(R2000.00), civil servants will also receive a housing allowance back-pay.
“But even though the salaries will be increased as per the Consultant report, some of our members had their salaries reduced because the Consultant felt they were earning more money. Mostly, it’s civil servants earning around five thousand Rands(R5,000.00), their salaries were reduced to three thousand Rands(R3000.00). We might challenge this because we feel a salary review must not leave workers worse-off”, said the NAPSAWU President.
Civil servants who will have their salaries increased include teachers, police officers, nurses, Correctional Officers, soldiers among others.

“Some civil servants might receive over R30,000.00 back-pay”, NAPSAWU President Bawinile Ndlovu(centre) says salary review first payment comes with back-payment.
