MBABANE:”We are engaging experts to assist us fully understand the context of the salary review report”.
These were the sentiments of Mbongwa Dlamini, the President of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers(SNAT) when responding to this Swaziland News on Wednesday morning.
Dlamini was asked to share his regarding earlier sentiments suggesting that, some civil servants might have their salaries reduced as per the recommendations of the Consultant report.
This was confirmed by Bawinile Ndlovu, the President of the National Public Services and Allied Workers Union(NAPSAWU) who said, the clauses seeking to reduce salaries for some civil servants might be challenged in court by NAPSAWU.
“But even though the salaries will be increased as per the Consultant report, some of our members had their salaries reduced because the Consultant felt they were earning more money. Mostly, it’s civil servants earning around five thousand Rands(R5,000.00), their salaries were reduced to three thousand Rands(R3000.00). We might challenge this because we feel a salary review must not leave workers worse-off”, said the NAPSAWU President.
But SNAT President Mbongwa Dlamini shared completely different sentiments, he said the changes seeking to reduce salaries for civil servants might affect new workers not current civil servants.
“I don’t blame the NAPSAWU President for her own interpretation of the report, even here at SNAT, there certain clauses that we don’t understand in the report. So we will be meeting an expert today to help us understand the context of the report,” said the SNAT President.
