MBABANE:Mthandeni Dube, the convicted Ngwempisi Member of Parliament(MP) who was appointed as the Deputy President of the Swaziland Liberation Movement(SWALIMO) by Mduduzi Magawugawu Simelane, might not take-up the position after his release.
Magawugawu appointed Mthandeni Dube as the Deputy President together with Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza, when launching SWALIMO, he said both MPs will act as his Deputies after their release from prison.
“I have reserved two(2) position for Mthandeni and Bacede, I am appointing them as First and Second Deputy President and they will decide after their release if they are taking-up these positions”, said the SWALIMO President.
But sources close to the MP told this Swaziland News that, MP Mthandeni Dube never joined SWALIMO in the first place but instead, his name was used against his will to promote the political organization and he couldn’t do anything as he was in prison.
“He even tried to send lawyer Sicelo Mngomezulu to inform Magawugawu to remove his picture from SWALIMO placards but Magawugawu refused to listen as he was promoting his political party using the pictures and the plight of the convicted MPs. As a result, during his welcoming event, there would be no SWALIMO placard and not a single member of SWALIMO or any political party will be allowed to sing political songs. Mthandeni Dube pledged allegiance and loyalty to the King,” said the source.
Lawyer Sicelo Mngomezulu who was representing the MPs previously confirmed to this Swaziland News that indeed, he was sent by Dube to warn Magawugawu against associating him with SWALIMO but Magawugawu refused to listen.
“It’s true, I was sent to warn Magawugawu against using not only Mthandeni Dube’s picture but even that of Bacede but he refused to listen”, said the lawyer.
MP Mthandeni Dube is highly expected to be released from prison after being pardoned by King Mswati, in his capacity as the Head of State.
