Chief Executive Officer(CEO) Gciniwe Fakudze says surveillance cameras already assisting law enforcement agencies in detecting crime in Mbabane, enhancing traffic control.

MBABANE:Gciniwe Fakudze,the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of the Mbabane Municipality says the installed surveillance cameras are already assisting law enforcement agencies in detecting crime and traffic control.

Addressing stakeholders during the Annual General Meeting(AGM) this week, the CEO described the Digital Transformation Project of the Mbabane Capital City as an amazing journey. 

She then applauded the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology(ICT) under the leadership of Minister Savannah Maziya for the project.

“An amazing journey this has been for the Capital City, the Mbabane Smart City Project is Eswatini’s flagship initiative for urban digital transformation in alignment with the National Vision to become a “Smart Kingdom. The project’s overarching goal, as articulated in the Council’s vision, is to be “an attractive Smart City, offering quality life and opportunities for all. The project focuses on leveraging Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to enhance safety, efficiency, and governance,” she said.

On another note, the CEO said, the “foundation of the project is the upgrade of the Capital City’s network to 5G”, to enable high-speed and real-time data transmission.

“Installation of a network of surveillance cameras at strategic points and intersections, all feeding into a fully operational Mbabane Operations Centre for Crime Prevention, traffic monitoring, and emergency response”, said the CEO.
