MBABANE:Roberto Mosquera del Peral, the Cuban citizen who was among the first five(5) dangerous criminals deported by the United States to eSwatini is allegedly on a hunger strike, his US lawyer Alma David confirmed through a statement sent to this Swaziland News on Wednesday morning.
It has been disclosed that, Roberto Mosquera del Peral who was detained at the eSwatini’s Matsapha Maximum Prison has been on an indefinite hunger strike since Thursday, 15th October 2025 according to his family friend and the US based Attorney.
“My client is arbitrarily detained, and now his life is on the line.I urge the Eswatini Correctional Services to provide Mr. Mosquera’s family and me with an immediate update on his condition and to ensure that he is receiving adequate medical attention. I demand that Mr. Mosquera be permitted to meet with his lawyer in Eswatini. The fact that my client has been driven to such drastic action highlights that he and the other 13 men must be released from prison. The Governments of the United States and Eswatini must take responsibility for the real human consequences of their deal,”said Alma David of United States Novo Legal Group.
Acting eSwatini Government Spokesperson Thabile Mdluli declined comment about the hunger strike.
Eswatini, a tiny Kingdom situated in Southern Africa signed an agreement with the United States(US) Donald Trump administration and as a result, the country is detaining more dangerous criminals some, who were previously convicted of murder and child rape.
