MBABANE:Government is highly expected to spend about R500million increasing salaries for Members of Parliament(MPs) including members of King Mswati’s Governing Councils(eMabandla) with the first payment of the salary increment due this month.

It has been disclosed through a leaked draft Government Circular that, each MP will have his/her salary increased by close to twenty thousand Rands(R20,000.00) and this means MPs will earn about seventy thousand Rands(R70,000.00) before tax deductions and, the current term budget is about R100million for all the MPs and Senators.

Finance Minister Neal Rijikernberg recently told the media that, MPs’ salaries will be increased and sources within the Ministry of Finance told this Swaziland News that, the Treasury Department is processing payments for the MPs, Cabinet Ministers, eMabandla and members of the security forces.

Acting Government Spokesperson Thabile Mdluli had not responded at the time of compiling this report.

On another note, Government is highly expected to spend over R300million in the current term increasing salaries for members of the various King’s Governing Councils including members of the King’s Advisory Council(Liqoqo), the Boarder Restoration Committee, the Elections and Boundaries Commission(EBC), the Ludzidzini Council, the Teaching Service Commission(TSC), Regional Administrators and Civil Service Commission(CSC).

The budget for the current term will then accumulate to about R500million, Government recently spent about R1billion increasing salaries for civil servants.
