MBABANE:Paul Seung-Hun Yung, the Vice Chancellor of the Eswatini Christian Medical University(EMCU) has resigned amid Parliamentary investigation into allegations of corruption within the institution of higher learning.
The Vice Chancellor wrote to Education and Training Minister Owen Nxumalo on the 1st September 2025 expressing his intention to resign.
“I was appointed as the 3rd Vice Chancellor (VC) of Eswatini Medical Christian University(EMCU) in October 2021, serving for 3 years until September 2024. And then I was grateful to receive an appointment letter from the Ministry of Education and Training to serve as EMCU's 4th VC from October 2024. And the Government Immigration Office granted me a residence permit until March 2027, meaning I will be able to serve as EMCU’s VC for the next one year and seven months. However, considering the various circumstances at EMCU, I want to resign from the position of VC after serving untul September 20, 2026. If I finish my term as EMCU’s VC by March 24, 2027 (set by Eswatini Immigration Office), my successor will be required to prepare major annual EMCU events, including graduation ceremony and the school’s anniversary ceremony, immediately after taking office. Therefore, after much thought, I have concluded that it is not good for me to serve my entire term,” reads the resignation letter in part.
The EMCU Vice Chancellor was contacted by this Swaziland News on Saturday morning but, he asked not to comment regarding the resignation.
On another note, a Parliament Select Committee is investigating allegations of corruption within Christian University, the MPs will then submit a report to be debated by Parliament.
