LOZITHA:George Wachira, the United Nations(UN) Eswatini Resident Coordinator has praised King Mswati’s leadership, while expressing full support for the country’s climate-change policies and the Monarch’s call for global governance reforms to enable the African continent to have a voice in the UN Security Council.
The UN Eswatini Resident Coordinator was speaking at Lozitha Palace this week during a courtesy visit, he was with other senior diplomats from the United Nations Development Program(UNDP) and representatives of other UN agencies in the Kingdom of eSwatini.
“Your Majesty’s leadership continues to embody the principles of the Ezulwini Consensus on global governance reform and through Your Majesty’s voice, Eswatini has reinforced the continent’s call for justice in global decision-making. We commend your continued championing of climate action, and, in this regard, we thank Your Majesty for Eswatini’s timely completion of the third Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement and Your Majesty’s participation at the Climate Summit in New York in September, which have earned Eswatini global commendation,” said the UN Resident Coordinator as quoted by Government online platforms.
On another note, the UN Eswatini Resident Coordinator praised King Mswati for empowering women through advocacy and the practical demonstration of support by appointing women into Parliament and other Governing Councils.
“We applaud Your Majesty’s leadership in empowering Eswatini’s women including through their election to parliament and other leadership positions in Government; and for the establishment of Lutsango Day on March 8 to celebrate and promote the role of women. Your Majesty, on behalf of the UN Country Team, we warmly congratulate you on your successful advocacy for the expansion of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization in Eswatini through the signing of the Country Hosting Agreement. Congratulations, Your Majesty!,” he said.
