MBABANE:Human Rights Foundation (HRF), the New York based international human rights organization that reported King Mswati and the Eswatini Government to the United Nations(UN) for unlawfully convicting ex-Member of Parliament(MP) Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube merely for demanding democracy, has called for more international pressure against the Tinkhundla undemocratic regime.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Human Rights Foundation welcomed the favorable ‘opinion’ of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) Working Group, demanding the release of Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube, the international human rights organization noted the recent release of Dube but called for the removal of the conditions.
“The WGAD’s opinion plays a crucial role in the international community’s reckoning with Swaziland’s dire human rights record. The situation in the small kingdom rarely makes international headlines, but this decision sends a strong signal to the Swazi regime: its human rights abuses will no longer escape international scrutiny,” said Venla Stang, the Senior Legal Associate of the Human Rights Foundation.
On another note, the Human Rights Foundation urged the international community to hold the Swazi regime accountable for its crackdown on dissent and to stand in solidarity with Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube.
