NYANYALI: Ayanda Dlamini, the Nyanyali woman whose child disappeared during Incwala ritual ceremony is crying hysterically appealing for help after the police allegedly tortured and thrown her behind bars for demanding her child.
Eswatini, a tiny Kingdom situated in Southern Africa is ruled by King Mswati as an absolute Monarch, the King’s ritual ceremony marred by allegations of ritual murders and or disappearance of citizens including children is normally held at the end of the year.
Speaking to this Swaziland News, Titi Mdluli, the grandmother of the missing child and mother to Ayanda said she went to visit Ayanda at Nhlangano prison on Thursday, she cried hysterically for her missing kid and the subsequent treatment she received at the hands of the police.
It is alleged that the police subsequently sabotaged the investigation of the missing child and targeted the mother, accusing her of being part of the group of Nyanyali residents who burnt the home of the suspect in protest against police refusal to arrest the suspects who were allegedly protected by influential people.
“I went to prison to visit her today(Thursday) uyakhala hhayi kancane, nyalo ukhaliswa buhlungu bekulahlekelwa ngumtfwana, waphindze waboshwa(meaning: she is crying hysterically for her missing child and the fact that she was later arrested for demanding for her child. I am contacting you because, we don’t know what to do now, she really needs help”, said Titi Mdluli, the grandmother of the missing child and mother to the incarcerated Ayanda Dlamini.
Reached for comments, Cebile Dlamini, the Secretary General of the Swaziland Rural Women Assembly(SRWA) said the situation faced by Ayanda Dlamini was unbearable for any human being.
“We need to support her as women, what she is currently going through is unbearable for any human being. The pain of losing her child, because even if the child was murdered at least she must know so that she could find closure. We condemn the conduct of the police who protected the suspect and targeted the woman just for demanding her missing child”, said the Rural Women Assembly Secretary General.
A questionnaire was sent to Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, the Police Spokesperson, however, she had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
Reached for comments, Sibongile Mazibuko, the President of the Ngwane National Liberatory Congress(NNLC) said the police arrested the woman just to poison and kill her so that the case of the missing child could be closed.
“That the children went missing during the Incwala ritual ceremony completes the whole story, the suspects and their home where the children went missing is known and the police did nothing to them. Now the police want to destroy evidence in the case of the missing child, they might poison and kill the woman while behind bars” ,said the NNLC President.
