MBABANE:King Mswati will maintain Eswatini’s non-alignment position amid tension between the United States (US) and Venezuela, his Spokesperson Percy Simelane told this Swaziland News on Wednesday evening.

The tension between the US and Venezuela escalated after United States forces invaded the South American country and abducted President Nicolas Maduro, accusing him of illegal drugs smuggling and terrorism.

“Eswatini is a non-aligned country, we have to abide by the rules that come with that position. We will continue to avoid involvement and play our cards closer to the chest. The only cards we can put on the  table is prayer that those who are directly involved act more responsibly to avoid the already volatile situation escalating further at the expense of global peace and stability. We will continue to pray to God to prevail as the security world peace goes into the intensive care unit and the lives of billions of people threatened,” said the King’s Spokesperson.

On another note, abducted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro appeared in the United States News York Court this week, facing drugs smuggling and terrorism charges.

But political analysts and legal experts “accuse of the United States” of violating the United Nations (UN) Charter by invading Venezuela and abducted President Nicolas Maduro.

Sibusiso Nhlabatsi, a highly regarded human rights lawyer in the Kingdom of Eswatini described the entire United States military operation as a gross violation of international law.

“In terms of the United Nations Charter, a country cannot invade another country and arrest a Head of State. It would have been different if Maduro was arrested while visiting the United States. The powers to authorize the invasion of another country vests with the UN Security Council,” said the human rights lawyer.
