MBABANE: Brightwell Nkambule, the Commissioner General of the Eswatini Revenue Service (ERS) has acknowledged the role of the Customs Department in facilitating legitimate trade.

Addressing stakeholders on Monday at Mananga Border Post as part of the International Customs Day Celebration, the Commissioner General said legitimate trade ensures that only “compliant goods enter” the market.

“Today, we recognise the dual role of Customs in facilitating legitimate trade while protecting society. Our commitment to improving border coordination and enhancing capabilities is crucial for ensuring only compliant goods enter our markets, thereby safeguarding public health and strengthening our economy,” said the Commissioner General.

The Eswatini Revenue Service (ERS) Customs and Excise Department is a semi-autonomous agency responsible for collecting import duties, enforcing trade regulations, and facilitating legitimate trade in Eswatini.

It operates under the Revenue Authority Act of 2008 to secure revenue, control prohibited goods, and manage border operations.
