MBABANE: Mlungisi Makhanya, the President of the People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO) says, their consistent call for democracy does not mean they have full expectations that, emaSwati will then vote for their political organization into power.

Speaking to The People’s Eye Podcast in an exclusive interview released this week, the leader of Eswatini main liberation movement said, PUDEMO wants multiparty democracy, political pluralism and/or the transfer of power from royal supremacy to the people.

But Makhanya warned against those who took advantage of the fact that, emaSwati “have been living under a political environment” with no political parties and mislead while causing confusion regarding the political party’s democratic agenda.

“We are interested in the transfer of power from the royal aristocracy to the hands of the people. Where the people will exercise that power in a free and democratic environment. Where they will elect a Government of their own and of their choice. It might as well be that their choice is not favorable to us as PUDEMO. They might actually decide that they want to elect party X or even a party that is linked to royal aristocracy. As long it is the exercise of the sovereignty and the supremacy of the people,” said the PUDEMO President.
