MBABANE: Pat Vilakati, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) says there’s no official complaint from football teams regarding alleged corruption involving referees.
The PLE Chief Executive Officer was responding to this Swaziland News on Wednesday when asked if there’s an investigation against the conduct of the referee whose decision resulted to violence during the Ingwenyama MVA Cup Mbabane Highlanders AM and Nsingizini Hot Spurs game.
“We are not aware of the allegations suggesting that, some referees are corrupt or taking bribes. We just read news from the media but we don’t have an official complaint from football teams, urging us to investigate corruption involving referees,” said the PLE Chief Executive Officer.
Violence erupted at the Mavuso Sports Centre on Sunday during the Ingwenyama MVA Cup between Mbabane Highlanders AM and Nsingizini Hot Spurs, this was after Highlanders fans expressed concern regarding the decisions of the referee.
But Sincemphetelo Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (SMVAF) and Premier League of Eswatini condemned the violence, SMVAF is the sponsor of the Ingwenyama Cup.
