LOBAMBA: Percy Simelane, the King’s Spokesperson has clarified that, Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini does not have powers to dismiss Information Minister Savannah Maziya.
Responding to this Swaziland News when asked to clarify the position of the Monarch after the Prime Minister summoned and dismissed the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) Minister in Parliament on Wednesday afternoon, the King’s Spokesperson said even though he was not aware of what exactly happened, to the best of his knowledge, only the King can relieve a Minister of his/her Cabinet duties.
“With no intention to suggest we know what exactly happened in Parliament on Wednesday between the Prime Minister and the Minister for ICT, we wish to submit that normally it is the appointing finger (the King) that can relieve a Minister of his/her Cabinet duties and responsibilities after a recommendation by Hospital Hill. Our experience is that the recommendations are thoroughly scrutinized before a decision is arrived at,” said the King’s Spokesperson.
