Parliament Finance Committee wants Ministry of Public Works and Transport to receive more money for the rehabilitation of roads.

Monday, 2nd March, 2026

MBABANE: The Parliament Finance Committee led by Chairman Lobamba Lomdzala Member of Parliament (MP) Marwick Khumalo has expressed serious concerns regarding the deteriorating state of roads nationwide.

In a report tabled in Parliament last week, the Finance Committee called for the urgent allocation of adequate funds to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport for the rehabilitation of roads.

“The Committee raised concerns about the deteriorating state of roads nationwide, noting that the allocation to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport does not adequately reflect the urgency of the situation. Members observed that poor road infrastructure continues to undermine economic productivity, increase vehicle maintenance costs for citizens, and pose safety risks. Given the central role of transport infrastructure in national development, the Committee questioned whether the current budgetary allocation adequately reflects the scale of rehabilitation and maintenance required. The matter was emphasised as a priority requiring deliberate fiscal rebalancing within the available resource envelope,” reads the report in part.
