LOBAMBA: Alec Lushaba, the Hhukwini Member of Parliament (MP) has accused the Eswatini Revenue Service (ERS) of destroying businesses in the country, warning that the newly introduced Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC) Regulations will worsen the situation.

Speaking in Parliament on Monday, the Hhukwini MP said, Government has been delaying to pay suppliers while on the other hand, ERS demands tax.

“Maybe we would be understanding ERS if the Government was paying suppliers on time. ERS approached this Parliament asking for a budget to strengthen tax compliance systems but now, even before those systems started working, they have started imposing restrictions to all emaSwati without a Tax Clearance,” said the Hhukwini MP.

The MP warned Government against introducing tax compliance measures that might completely collapse more businesses in the country.

Eswatini Revenue Service introduced strict tax compliance measures, emaSwati will no longer be able to do some transactions through the banking system without a tax clearance, transactions requiring a tax clearance include buying a car, transferring large amounts of money to foreign bank accounts, company registration, distribution of eStates and securing of tenders within giant State and privately owned companies.
