MBABANE: Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe has denied any favouritism towards a specific Nation following the decision to strip Senegal of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title, Soccer Laduma reported on Thursday.
It has been reported that, the CAF’s Appeals Board ruled that Morocco would be awarded the 2025 AFCON title after Senegal were deemed to have forfeited the final.
Senegal was judged to have abandoned the match after walking off the pitch in protest against a late penalty awarded to Morocco.
In response, Motsepe admitted he remains disappointed by the events that marred the final.
"I have been informed of the ruling by the CAF Appeals Board concerning the appeal by Morocco relating to the 2025 final match, and I previously expressed my extreme disappointment with the incidents that took place at the final match,” Motsepe said as quoted by Soccer Laduma.
The CAF President said the situation undermined the integrity, respect, ethics and credibility of African football.
"The incidents that the final match in Morocco exposes are the work that we are still dealing with concerning the suspicion and distrust. It's a legacy issue," he added.
