MBABANE: Swaziland News editor Zweli Martin Dlamini has donated Ten Thousand Rand(R10,000.00) to Zwakele Bhembe* who was allegedly shot by the police during the pro-democracy protests that manifested into chaos.
Dlamini said the money was donated by members of the public during a crowd funding that lasted for one hour on Facebook, it was initially meant to buy a temporal or an alternative laptop for the editor.
“I received a call this morning(Saturday) from a man who alleged that he was shot by the police from the back and the bullet went through the front. When I rushed to my laptop to write the story, I discovered that it has crashed, that was when I decided to go live on Facebook for the crowd funding. I could have bought another laptop with the money but I felt like giving this opportunity to our readers to contribute in saving the life of the Swazi who was shot. We did the crowd funding for only one hour on Facebook and the response was huge. As per his wish, the money was deposited into account of Zwakele’s partner who is taking care of him” said the editor.
Bhembe* thanked the editor, Swaziland News and members of the public for the support saying they money will assist him with medical costs. He said he was shot at the back by the police at Nhlangano and the bullet went through to the front.
