MBABANE: The US Embassy has condemned the arrest of Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube, the two Members of Parliament that are calling for democratic reforms.
In a public statement, the US Embassy said the people of eSwatini have a Constitutional right to be heard through their own freely chosen representatives in Parliament. The US Embassy said the suppression of the right of individuals-including Members of Parliament to freely express their opinions is unacceptable.
“We call on the authorities to exercise transparency in the application of law and to respect and protect human rights, despite political differences", reads the statement in part.
Sabelo Dlamini, the Spokesperson of the eSwatini Government had not responded to our questionnaire at the time of compiling this report.
On another note, the bail hearing of the two pro-democracy MPs Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube was postponed to Thursday.
This was also confirmed by Advocate Mduduzi ‘Tsotsi’ who is representing the two MPs after being instructed by Lawyer Sifiso Jele said their bail hearing was postponed by High Judge Mummcy Dlamini to Thursday 29th July 2021.
“The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) team requested time to file their opposing affidavits by noon on Wednesday and we also made an undertaking to file our heads of arguments by 9 am on Thursday, the DPP team is also expected to file their heads of arguments by noon so that the matter can proceed by 2 pm”,he said.
