MBABANE: Lucky Lukhele, the Spokesperson of the Swaziland Solidarity Network(SSN) has clarified that it was King Mswati who was reported to the International Criminal Court(ICC)not eSwatini.
Speaking to this Swaziland News on Sunday, Lukhele said as an organization, they have noted the systematic twisting of facts by the Times of Eswatini to protect King Mswati by implying that it was the country(Eswatini) that might face crimes against humanity charges.
“There’s no case opened against Swaziland as a country, there is a case opened against the Head of State for crimes against humanity. In this case, it is King Mswati who is a suspect together with those who are in authority that include the then Acting Prime Minister and the Heads of security forces who were in charge of the operation in the killing of more than 100 Swazis. Therefore, for the Times of Swaziland to suggest that the entire country is suspect, it’s misrepresentation of facts. No matter how hard they try to twist facts, the democratic train has arrived”, said the Solidarity Network Spokesperson.
The Times reported on Sunday that eSwatini has been reported to the ICC, the newspaper interviewed a legal expert who alleged that the ongoing burning of properties was weakening the ICC case against Eswatini. In the article, there was no mentioning of King Mswati’s name the Commander-in Chief of the armed forces.
