MBABANE: Colani Maseko, the influential President of the Swaziland National Union of Students(SNUS) has advised King Mswati to vacate the Throne immediately, saying his days in power are numbered.

Speaking to this Swaziland News online radio on Thursday, the Student Union President said they were preparing to implement a programme of action that would completely make eSwatini ungovernable until Mswati was toppled.

“We want everything to stop in this country until democracy is achieved, filling stations must run out of petrol so that even those who are rich could be affected by the situation. I would like to warn various schools including the privately owned that they must close. Education and everything must stand still because we want the world to know that education in this country is in crisis. We would like to thank our brothers and sisters in the public transport sector, let’s put the pressure so that even those who are rich and powerful feel the pressure”, said the Student Union leader.

King Mswati’s Spokesperson Sabelo Dlamini had not responded at the time of compiling this report.

Eswatini is in the midst of a political crisis as citizens intensify calls for democratic reforms. The country is ruled by Mswati as an absolute Monarch, political parties are banned from participating in elections and the King appoints the Prime Minister, Judges, a majority of Senators and all members of the various Governing Councils.
