Pro-democracy ex-police officer Cece Shongwe says police officers who shoot civilians might lose their jobs under democratic government.

MBABANE: Pro-democracy former police officer Cebile “Cece” Shongwe has warned police officers against shooting and killing civilians in the midst of the political unrest, saying those who do so might lose their jobs under the coming new democratic government.

Speaking to this Swaziland News online radio on Thursday, Shongwe condemned the shooting of a public transport employee around Luyengo on Wednesday adding that police had an obligation to protect civilians.

“Police have an obligation to protect the people and those who kill civilians might lose their jobs under the coming new democratic government”, she said.

Eswatini Police Spokesperson Phindile Vilakati had not responded at the time of compiling this report.

Eswatini is in the midst of a political crisis, police officers were unleashed by Mswati to shoot and kill protesters.
