Monday, 18th October, 2021

MBABANE: Political parties, pro-democracy Members of Parliament(MPs) will soon form an interim transitional government as Swazis intensify moves to oust King Mswati.

This was announced by eSwatini’s highly regarded human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko, the Chairperson of the Multistakeholders Forum, a collaboration of political parties, women rights organizations, the church and pro-democracy MPs among others. He was speaking live on Swaziland News during the State of the Nation update in the midst of the pro-democracy protests that seek to remove King Mswati from power.

“This current government has dirty hands and can nolonger lead Swazis. As Makhanya mentioned and I repeat, we have already lost about eighty or more than eighty Swazis who were innocent but shot and killed at the order of His Majesty. Therefore, this government is  nolonger credible, is nolonger legitimate and fit to govern this innocent Nation. The time has come for us to form an interim government that commands the support of the entire people of Swaziland”, he said.

Eswatini is in the midst of a political crisis, citizens including school children are protesting, demanding democratic reforms. The country is ruled by Mswati as an absolute Monarch, political parties are banned from participating in elections, the King appoints the Prime Minister, Ministers, Judges, Senators and all members of the various Governing Councils.
