MBABANE: Colani Maseko, the President of the Swaziland National Union of Students(SNUS) has urged the youth to intensify the ‘Mswati must fall’ campaign by removing all the King’s pictures within Universities.
Speaking to this Swaziland News on Friday, the Students' President said as the youth, they stated categorically that they didn't want Mswati on the Throne and that campaign was ongoing.
“All University students, when they resume classes, are urged to remove Mswati, Indlovukazi and Prime Minister’s pictures from the walls. For now we are urging the administrators to remove the pictures themselves but once the Universities open with the pictures still on the walls, we will remove them ourselves”, he said.
The Students President said King Mswati, the Queen Mother and the Prime Minister were part of the individuals who killed innocent civilians and therefore they didn\'t deserve to be honoured with their pictures placed on the walls of Universities. He said the removal of the pictures formed part of the ongoing ‘Mswati must fall’ campaign adding that the King who allegedly killed people was not their role model.
Education Minister Lady Howard Mabuza had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
King Mswati allegedly unleashed soldiers and the police to shoot and kill dozens of protesting civilians who were demanding democratic reforms.
The Human Rights Commission released a preliminary report confirming forty-six(46) deaths and two hundred and forty-five injuries, however political parties and the civil society revealed that the number was more than one hundred and they have managed to confirm and contact relatives of over seventy(70) victims.
