SIPHOCOSINI: Residents of Siphocosini in the outskirts of Mbabane are facing eviction to give way to a water project that will supply the International Convention Centre(ICC) among others.
Speaking to this Swaziland News, Danyela Dlamini, a senior resident of the area said their eviction was communicated to them by Chief Mashampu Khumalo.
“It’s that we are facing eviction and we don’t know where we are going and how we will survive”, he said.
Efforts to reach Attorney General Sifiso Khumalo proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.
An insider within the Siphocosini Royal Kraal under Chief Mashampu Khumalo faction confirmed that over two hundred(200) residents face eviction.
”Actually there are 210 homesteads to be affected”, said the insider.
It has been disclosed that the water project will supply Mswati’s International Convention Centre(ICC)with water.
Reached for comments, Bonsile Mamba, the Chairperson of the Swaziland Rural Women Assembly(SRWA) said it was unfortunate that the citizens were evicted from their land despite the existence of a Constitution that guarantees the right to land ownership.
“Citizens have a right to land and we condemn the ongoing evictions of people from their land just to give way for King’s projects”, she said.
On Thursday, Swaziland News journalists went to tour the area at Siphocosini as part of the ongoing investigation regarding the eviction of the citizens from their land.
