MBABANE: Pro-democracy groups under the Multistakeholder Forum say while they welcome and and appreciate the efforts by SADC to resolve the ongoing political crisis, they remain opposed to Sibaya as a venue for the political dialogue.
In a public statement, human rights lawyer Thulani Rudolf Maseko, the Chairperson of the Multistakeholder Forum said the situation faced by the Nation was not a traditional crisis.
“Rather, it is a political crisis requiring a clear political solution. Sibaya lacks the capacity for being a forum to genuinely engage with political issues to find lasting solutions. In the past and in many instances Sibaya has been used for wrong political reasons to denigrate, undermine, mock and insult the intelligence of the Nation. We cannot be party to a forum where the King and his cronies feel that they have the upper hand and can use the space to intimidate”, said the Chairperson of Multistakeholder Forum.
The statement by the Multistakeholder comes in the midst of growing calls for democratic reforms, after meeting SADC Troika Chairperson President Cyril Ramaphosa, King Mswati allegedly committed himself to dialogue at least after the Incwala ceremony.
