MBABANE: Sabelo Dlamini, the Secretary General of the Swaziland Local Kombis Association says they have applied to government for an increase in bus fares following the endless hike in fuel prices.

Speaking to this Swaziland News on Wednesday shortly after Natural Resources Principal Secretary Dorcas Dlamini announced an increase in fuel prices, the Public Transport Association Secretary General said the proposal was already with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport adding that in the event it got  delayed it might be overtaken by events.

“The proposal is already with ministry and if it's delayed it would be overtaken by events as it won't have an impact on our side. It's a big concern to us that government always increases petrol without increasing bus fares”, he said.

Reached for comments, Chief Ndlaluhlaza Ndwandwe, the Minister of Public Works and Transport confirmed that the application was with the Ministry adding that it was still to be assessed within other Departments before it could reach his office.

“It’s true that an application for a hike in bus fares is with the Ministry, however, it was still being assessed within other departments before it can reach my office”, said the Minister.
