MANZINI: Colani Maseko, the President of the Swaziland National Union of Students(SNUS) who is critical of King Mswati has been arrested and charged with Sedition and malicious damage to property.
As exclusively reported by this Swaziland News earlier on Monday, Maseko was abducted by over ten(10) police officers in Manzini while on his way to the Nazarene University where he is studying.
Reached for comments, Wakhile Lukhele, the Secretary General of the Swaziland National Union of Students (SNUS)confirmed the arrest of Maseko.
“He was charged with sedition and malicious damage to property and has been remanded into custody until Wednesday”, said the Students Union Secretary General.
Colani Maseko who has been vocal in calling for democratic reforms and the fall of Mswati’s regime has joined pro-democracy Members of Parliament(MPs) Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube who were charged last year after an order allegedly issued by King Mswati.
A few months ago, the Students President led university students who destroyed portraits for King Mswati, he urged students not to recognize the King as a Head of State and University Chancellor.
