MBABANE: The Lesotho Teachers Trade Union (LTTU) calls for the realease of the students President Colani Maseko who was arrested by King Mswati’s police and charged with sedition and malicious damage to property.
Colani Maseko, the President of the Swaziland National Union of Students (SNUS) was kidnapped by about 10 police officers on Monday and subsequently charged with Sedition and malicious damage to property after leading students in the calls for the fall of Mswati’s regime.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Mamoholoane Folene, the LTTU Secretary General condemned the arrest of the students President and called for his immediate release.
“We condemn the arbitrary arrest of Colani Maseko,we plead with the government of eSwatini to allow calm heads to prevail and realese the student leader” said the Secretary General.
Wakhile Lukhele, the SNUS Secretary General thanked all international organizations that have pledged their support.
"We would like to send our sincere thanks and appreciation to all local and international progressive forces including students and teachers organizations who have pledged their support", he said.
Eswatini is in the midst of a political crisis after King Mswati unleashed his forces to shoot and kill dozens of civilians merely for demanding democratic reforms.
