MATSAPHA: The State has offered to release incarcerated pro-democracy Member of Parliament(MP) Mthandeni Dube on condition he agrees to testify against Hosea MP Bacede Mabuza.
Reached for comments, Sicelo Mngomezulu, the South African Correspondent Attorney representing the pro-democracy MPs confirmed that Dube was approached by armed police and Correctional Services officials to persuade him to testify against MP Bacede Mabuza.
“We can confirm that Accused No.2, MP Mthandeni Dube was, sometime last week, approached by armed forces officials (Police and Correctional Services) to beg him to turn on his co-accused, implicate him on the charges they're both facing and thus become a State witness.Thankfully, MP Dube has rebuffed these overtures and he remains unshakable”, said the lawyer representing the pro-democracy MPs.
Reached for comments, Senior Superintendent Gugulethu Dlamini, the Spokesperson of the Correctional Services said the matter was before the court and advised this journalist to follow it through the courts.
“That matter is before the court, it’s better for you Mlangeni to follow it through the court”, said the Correctional Services Spokesperson.
MPs Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube who are critical of King Mswati and his regime were arrested and charged with terrorism after they demanded democratic reforms on behalf of the people who elected them.
