LOBAMBA: Pro-Tinkhundla Members of Parliament(MPs) successfully voted against Nkilongo MP Timothy Myeni’s move to debate Mswati’s speech from the Throne and resolved to present cows to the King as a token of appreciation.
It has been disclosed that MP Myeni wanted to question why the release of the incarcerated pro-democracy MPs Mthandeni Dube and Bacede Mabuza was not included in the King’s Speech from the Throne.
But Gege MP Musa Kunene moved that the Speech from the Throne should not be debated but instead, a team of MPs must be sent to the King to thank him, this was supported by a majority of the MPs.
The Gege MP made the submissions on Thursday after Prime Minister Cleopas Dlamini addressed the House over the Speech from the Throne.
“Mr Speaker with due respect, I am objecting. Can we be allowed to debate what the Prime Minister have just said ?” the Nkilongo MP said.
MP Myeni was seconded by Nhlambeni MP Manzi Zwane, however, a majority of the MPs voted in favour of the move to thank the King over the Speech.
This was after Speaker Petros Mavimbela proposed a vote to determine whether MPs wanted to debate or thank the King over the Speech and the House resolved to thank Mswati.
