MBABANE: Health workers at the Mbabane Government Hospital have on Friday downed tools to deliver a petition to the National Commissioner of Police William Tsintsibala Dlamini.

This comes after the police violently dispersed and shot pro-democracy activists who had assembled outside the High Court to support the incarcerated MPs Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube in their ongoing court case on Thursday.

Mfanzile Shongwe, an orderly at the Mbabane Government Hospital got shot in the eye while on duty.

Speaking to this publication, Mayibongwe Masangane, the Secretary General of the Swaziland Democratic Nurses Union (SWADNU) said  the safety of all citizens in general and health workers in particular must be safe guarded at all material times.

“The shooting of health care workers at their place of work is uncalled for and as a union we condemn such an act. We want to show the world that we are nolonger safe even at work and we cannot take this anymore”,said the SWADNU Secretary General.

Phindile Vilakati, the eSwatini Police Spokesperson had not responded to our questions at the time of compiling this report.

Eswatini is in the midst of a political crisis after King Mswati declared war on pro-democracy activists.
