LOMAHASHA: Residents of Lomahasha in the eastern parts of eSwatini engaged in a night protest after the police violently dispersed them on Sunday while fixing potholes along the road.
It has been disclosed that the residents organized themselves on Sunday to fix potholes on their road, however, the police allegedly arrived and dispersed them in fear that they might come together and plot to engage in a protest against Mswati’s Government.
Reached for comments, Siboniso Mkhabela, the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) Head of International Relations who is a resident of Lomahasha confirmed the matter.
“It’s true that the police dispersed them after they had decided to fix the road after its condition caused many accidents. There were big potholes that were causing the accidents and we have buried many people, the police came and stopped us saying we didn’t consult the Ministry of Works. We ended up fixing only two potholes and now the youth is protesting and burning tyres on the road”, he said.
Police Spokesperson Phindile Vilakati had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
Eswatini is in the midst of a political crisis after the police shot and killed dozens of civilians merely for demanding democratic reforms.
