MBABANE: Mduduzi Gina, the Secretary General of the Trade Union Congress of Swaziland (TUCOSWA) says the charges leveled by Government against Mbongwa Dlamini, the President of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers(SNAT) amount to union bashing.
This comes after the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) reinstated charges of misconduct against the SNAT President which had been earlier suspended after transferring him from Mhubhe High School to Moyeni High School.
Speaking to this Swaziland News, Mduduzi Gina, the Secretary General of the Trade Union Congress of Swaziland (TUCOSWA) said this was a strategy by the Government to keep the SNAT President on a leash and this amounted to union bashing.
“We condemn this with the strongest possible terms. This is a violation of the Industrial Act and Convention 87 and 98 of the International Labour Organization (ILO). It is with that understanding that the Federation reported his case to the ILO", said the TUCOSWA Secretary General.
Dr Amos Mahlalela, the Chairman of the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) had not responded to our questionnaire at the time of compiling this report.
In an earlier interview with this Swaziland News, Mbongwa Dlamini, the President of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers(SNAT) revealed that his former Headteacher at Mhubhe High School wrote to the TSC asking for his replacement as soon as he was elected the President of the Teachers Union in 2018 and was subsequently accused of misconduct .
“I was forcefully transferred to another school, now I have been told that my charges have been reinstated. The TSC has since asked my new Headteacher to write a report about my performance which is unprocedural,”said the SNAT President.
