CoronaVirus:SNAT pressurise King to shutdown schools, State of emergency declared.

MBABANE: King Mswati has announced that his government will close all schools and declared a State of Emergency few hours after the Swaziland National Association of Teachers(SNAT) ordered their members not to report for duty in the midst of the CoronaVirus outbreak.

Speaking during a press conference today, Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini said he has been commanded by the King to invoke Section 29 of the Disaster Management Act 2006 to declare a State of Emergency in the Kingdom of Eswatini with immediate.

\"I have been commanded by His Majesty King Mswati III and Ingwenyama to invoke section 29 of the Disaster Management Act 2006 to declare a State of Emergency in the Kingdom of Eswatini with immediate effect for a period not exceeding two (2) months. Schools and Tertiary Institutions should be closed with immediate effect until further notice. The King has further commanded the Government to ensure that all emaSwati students abroad and citizens in the diaspora are protected and safe from the pandemic.”He said.

Yesterday, Mbongwa Dlamini and the entire SNAT National Executive Committee(NEC) took a decision to withdraw their members from all public schools saying they were concerned about their safety as government was staggering in addressing the issue of the CoronaVirus.

Addressing the media today, the PM further announced that the King’s Birthday has been cancelled with Good Friday and Easter Services and the Army Day suspended.

 The Army day is suspended,Good Friday & Easter Services are suspended & the King’s Birthday celebration is canceled. The budget set aside for the King’s birthday celebration will be re-directed to the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic” he said.
