MANZINI: Members of the Eswatini Solidarity Fund were shot by the Manzini police on Thursday afternoon merely for accompanying one of their own who had gone to the police station to open an assault case.
The members of the solidarity fund were fresh from launching their new campaign "Free All Political Prisoners”.
Tibusiso Mdluli, the Steering Committee member of the Eswatini Solidarity Fund was assaulted by among those assaulted by the police for supporting incarcerated pro-democracy Members of Parliament(MPs)Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube.
Speaking to this Swaziland News, Gugulethu Makhanya of the Solidarity Fund confirmed that they were shot shortly after being told by the police to leave the police station.
“We were at the police station, accompanying our member Tibusiso Mdluli, however while she was inside recording the statement, police told us to leave the police station and subsequently shot us while standing outside police station.Shots were fired through an open window and we ran for our dear lives leaving Tibu inside", she said.
Police Spokesperson Phindile Vilakati had not responded the time of compiling this report.
King Mswati’s police officers have killed dozens of civilians merely for demanding democratic reforms, since a political unrest started in June last year.
