NTONDOZI: Pro-democracy ground forces allegedly bombed Ntondozi Mountain base station housing transmission equipment for the State owned radio, television(TV)stations and the mobile companies.
Speaking to this Swaziland News on Sunday, a member of the ground forces said they wanted to shutdown all propaganda State broadcasters as all the transmitters serving the whole country were based at Ntondozi.
“We bombed the base stations for radio and TV but we avoided MTN because we use cellphones to communicate, uma sekuhamba le-network sitawubese senta njani? Futsi MTN simbona kulamalanga ngatsi uya-donather so sizamile kungatsintsi lokwakhe(meaning: we avoided to touch MTN equipment because we don’t want a network blackout and the fact that these days MTN is donating to the people,” said the leader of the group that went to Ntondozi Mountains on Saturday night.
Reached for comments, Channel S Director Qhawe Mamba said they were no longer using aerials at Ntondozi after migrating to digital.
“We don’t have any broadcasting equipment in that Mountain anymore,we are broadcasting digitally,” he said.
On Sunday morning, insiders within the group that bombed called this journalist to break a story that the base station had been bombed, however, they were told that it was impossible to do so without evidence in a form of pictures. The pictures were subsequently obtained on Monday evening.
Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, the police Spokesperson had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
Eswatini is in the midst of a political crisis, King Mswati is unleashing the police to shoot and kill civilians, in the process, citizens are allegedly burning structures. Dozens have been killed merely for demanding democratic reforms since the political unrest started in June 2021.
