MBABANE:Mlungisi Makhanya, the President of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) has called upon King Mswati to sell his two jets, fleet of vehicles including the latest Rolls Royce and the money be used to strengthen the fight against CoronaVirus.
In press statement released on Thursday through the office of the Secretary General Wandile Dludlu, the President said with the current situation, there cannot be any room for King Mswati to continue living large when the people are facing the greatest threat to their existence in a century.
“King Mswati must sell his two luxurious jets and the fleet of fancy vehicles, including the latest Rolls Royce acquisitions. The proceeds of these sales can go towards bolstering the fiscus and strengthening the national response plan. There cannot be any room for living large when our people face the greatest threat to their existence in a century” he said.
The PUDEMO leader further called upon Tibiyo TakaNgwane to be directed to pay for the procurement of all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) needed for health workers to effectively and safely respond to this epidemic. Tibiyo is a multi-billion public investment company that was subsequently manipulated by the King for his personal benefit.
“The entire budget for the Royal Emoluments and Civil List, which is used to pay Royal family members must be shifted to the Health Ministry to produce COVID-19 testing equipment. Expand testing centres across the country. This includes decentralizing testing, isolation and treatment centres to all four regions and closer to where the majority of our people reside -rural areas. Ensure that all key actors and healthcare workers in the health ecosystem are well trained, capacitated and protected as they discharge their duties of care during the response” said the PUDEMO President.
