MBABANE: A Mercedes Benz belonging to Sive Siyinqaba Acting Chairman Ngomyayona Gamedze was in the early morning hours on Friday burnt.
The attacks on properties belonging to pro-democracy leaders come after this Swaziland News published a series of articles warning the Nation that King Mswati had issued an order to burn properties belonging to those calling for democratic reforms.
The information was shared by a high profile source within the security forces who works closely with Mswati.
In his own words, the source revealed that Mswati said:
“Manje yini kungashiswa tintfo talaba labalwa nelive batowekhuta nabo”(meaning: Why don’t we burn properties of those rebelling against the country so that they can condemn the arson attacks”, said the source.
Worth-noting, pro-democracy leaders had called for a dialogue with the King and this was endorsed by the public through the delivery of petitions, but Mswati responded with violence by unleashing soldiers and the police to kill civilians. He subsequently told those calling for democratic reforms that eSwatini belonged to him.
Police Spokesperson Superintendent Phindile Vilakati had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
The burning of Ngoma Gamedze’s was confirmed by his organization through a public statement.
“Sive Siyinqaba National Movement’s Acting Chairperson Mr Ngoma Gamedze’s Mercedes Benz car E250 was burnt at around 3am in the early hours of this morning by operatives of darkness and evil, who have been sponsored to target all political leaders and activists calling for democracy in Swaziland,” read the statement in part.
Ngomyayona Gamedze, a former Senate Deputy President has been vocal in calling for democratic reforms, his political party is a member of the Political Parties Assembly(PPA).
Few days ago, a car belonging Wandile Dludlu, the Secretary General of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO)was burnt.
