MBABANE: Mancoba Khumalo, the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo has urged Nhlangano striking textile workers to return to work with immediate effect.
Addressing the media on Wednesday in Mbabane, the Minister said the strike action has resulted in the textiles factories not being able to supply orders to their customers hence the potential loss of contracts and penalties in other instances.
“The strike action has also affected businesses as they have other overhead costs to bear while employees are not at work to produce goods that generate income for the business. It is in that spirit that workers are strongly encouraged to return to work for the businesses to generate income for their livelihoods and also for its sustainability. If there are any issues that need discussion pertaining to the welfare of employees, such should be done in a manner that does not affect operations and an amicable solution will be reached.”said the Minister.
On another note, Wander Mkhonza, the Secretary General of the Amalgamated Trade Union of Swaziland(ATUSWA), the addressing the matter on Wednesday through the union’s online platform said the strike continues.
