Saturday, 30th April, 2022

KWALUSENI: Dr Salebona Simelane Simelane, the Registrar of the University of Eswatini(UNESWA) has made a commitment to strengthen security after a rapist invaded the institution of higher learning on Friday night and raped three(3) students.

This comes after Mswati’s government failed to release subversions to the University resulting to the Management struggling to maintain the institution, the rapist allegedly gained entry through a faulty unlocked door.

Speaking to this Swaziland News, Dr Salebona Simelane, the University Registrar confirmed the matter but declined to make comments on the faulty door

“This was in one of the common rooms where the students were accommodated, as we speak they are very traumatised, they are currently at the Mbabane Government Hospital, there are a lot of stages to follow after that. We have security at the University, but somehow the perpetrators managed to beat the system.Im not aware of the issue of the faulty door but it is not something I can be able to talk about right now,” said the Registrar.

Both Education Minister Lady Howard Mabuza and Police Spokesperson Superintendent Phindile Vilakati had not responded at the time of compiling this report.

But Wakhile Lukhele, the Secretary General of the Swaziland National Union of Students (SNUS) in a statement sent to this publication confirmed that the perpetrators gained entry through a faulty door which the University had neglected to fix for a long time.

"We strongly believe that the rape of the three students is as a result of the negligence and incompetence of the University administration which is failing to fix and maintain students dormitories and provide adequate security at the institution, most particularly within the hostels.
