EZULWINI: Nathie Dlamini, the Business Eswatini Chief Executive Officer(CEO) has thanked the United States of America(USA) for opening a global market for eSwatini through the African Growth and Opportunity Act(AGOA).
Speaking during the Eswatini Exporters Awards held at the Happy Valley Hotel, the Business Eswatini CEO said AGOA created more trading opportunities for eSwatini than most countries in the world.
The event was graced by among others, US Ambassador to Eswatini Jeanne Maloney and Commerce Minister Manqoba Khumalo.
“I remember vividly when the US congress passed the AGOA Act in the year 2000. Whilst we had thought it would replace GSP, we would later learn that it would augment it by giving Sub-Saharan countries even more trading advantages than most countries of the world. Upon its passage that year, a man from a small town called Pine Bluff in the state of Arkansas soon took to the podium to happily state that the piece of legislation would allow Africa to trade itself out of poverty,”said the Business Eswatini CEO.
The Business Eswatini CEO then thanked former US President Bill Clinton who approved eSwatini’s eligibility for AGOA.
