EKUDZENI: A group of rural women here at Ekudzeni determined for a financial breakthrough,started a poultry business inside a stick and mud structure.
Eswatini is a tiny Kingdom situated in Southern Africa with about 70% of the population living below the poverty line, women and children particularly girls are the most affected.
MTN Foundation in partnership with One Billion has since donated part of the three hundred thousand(R300,000.00)announced by the mobile company to these hardworking women.
The MTN Foundation-One Billion Rising project is meant to empower women to be financial independent as part of the fight against Gender Based Violence(GBV).
One of the beneficiaries of the project at Ekudzeni Swane Simelane said through this income generating project they have started as women groups, they will be able to support their children.
“Since we are currently struggling due to the high rate of poverty in the country. We feel our lives have just begun and we will ensure that we work hard and make sure that this is a success”she said.
Colani Hlatjwako, Africa Regional Coordinator of the One Billion Rising campaign in Eswatini said through community circles initiative they empower women to work against any odds or challenges.
She mentioned that it is so inspiring that the women took the opportunity and run with it, without complaining and improvise what they don't have.
“The community Circles are aimed at empowering women and communities to come up with sustainable strategies to combat Gender Based Violence(GBV)”, she said.
