UNFPA:Eswatini facing an increase in unintended pregnancies.

MBABANE:Margaret Thwala-Tembe, from the United Nations Population Fund(UNFPA) Head of Office says eSwatini is facing an increase in unintended pregnancies.

Speaking through a representative during the official launch of the 2022 State of the World Population Report at Esibayeni Lodge on Thursday,the UNFPA Head of Office said in Eswatini, unintended pregnancies occurred in alarming numbers. 

“According to the 2006-07 Demographic and Health Survey, 64% of births were unintended and of these, 37% were not wanted at all, whilst 27% were mistimed For the women affected, the most life-altering reproductive choice-whether or not to become pregnant is no choice at all.This is an unseen crisis unfolding right before us”,she said.

On another note,Dr Tambo Gina,the Economic Planning Minister said this year’s theme “State of the World report", called for action on what it called neglected crisis of unintended pregnancy adding that this really meant it should be business unusual.
