Political leaders must remember the over 500 political unrest prisoners.

Friday, 27th May, 2022

Over five hundred(500)Swazis including women and children were arrested during the June 2021 political unrest and we expect political leaders to run campaigns and ensure that these citizens are released.

It is absurd for political leaders to call protests without having a clear strategy on how to protect the people and or engage in activities to demand their release once they are arrested by this cruel and oppressive regime.

As the media,we sometimes focus on the arrest of high profile people, demanding their release, forgetting that there were ordinary citizens who were fighting for their country and no one is talking about them now.

The Foundation for Social and Economic Justice(FSEJ) and other organizations have been trying to pay bails or fines for these Swazis but others are still behind bars.

Some Swazis are behind bars because they can’t afford to pay a mere One Thousand Rands (R1000.00), those who might be willing to assist are not aware where to direct the assistance as no one is speaking on their behalf.

Let’s have leaders who will not only call the people to a protest but they must also stand with those who get injured or arrested in the midst of this political war to liberate this country.

When a high profile political leader is targeted by the regime, we all stand-up and make noise, what about the ordinary citizens who are languishing in jail?

The over five hundred(500)citizens who are languishing in jail as you read this article cannot speak for themselves, they expect a journalist to remind the political leaders about their plight.

I would be failing in my duties as an editor or journalist if I could keep quiet while other citizens are languishing in jail because they are not famous, political leaders must, at all times, protect all citizens from this cruel regime regardless of their status in the society.

In conclusion, let me

remind political leaders to take responsibility and run campaigns that seek to pay bails or fines for the incarcerated citizens who were arrested during the June 2021 political unrest.

Other citizens are willing to assist, we cannot pretend as if all is well while other citizens are languishing in jail just because they are not famous.
