MBABANE: Zweli Martin Dlamini, the editor of the Swaziland News has once again reminded the police and soldiers to stop torturing and killing civilians adding that perpetrators would be exposed and held accountable in his or her personal capacity.

The editor said soldiers and the police should not be blinded when among a battalion of their colleagues during operations and shoot civilians with impunity, saying after being exposed, the consequences might impact each officer at personal level as the reaction by the society towards cannot be predicated.

“It’s very important to remind them of their obligation to protect civilians not to kill citizens in defence of Mswati. As a publication, we have taken a position to expose each and every police officer or soldier who perpetrates or participates in the killing of civilians and once you do that, the current political situation in the country suggests that your life will never be the same,” said the editor.

The editor said he warned soldiers and the police on one of his Facebook posts that there would come a time when police officers would be on their own for killing civilians.

“Before, the media would call the PRO for comments and the police were able to hide and be defended by an institution. Furthermore, the media would report saying police did this and that, we will continue seeking comments from the PRO but the names of officers seen in videos shooting and killing civilians will  be exposed to discourage the ongoing massacre,” said the editor.
