MBABANE: Moses Vilakati, the Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs says Eswatini must work towards saving the environment while adapting to the reality of climate change.
Speaking during the commissioning of the programme of work for the Environment Fund in the midst of the challenges that come with climate change, the Minister said the Fund was established to address these challenges while creating sustainable jobs.
The environmental project was funded by the United Nations Development Fund(UNDP).
“As the country faces these dire challenges, we are reminded that the Eswatini Environment Fund was established to help the country to better respond to these challenges.The projects are meant for environmental protection while at the same time helping to boost the local economies and create sustainable jobs, especially for vulnerable groups namely women and the youth,”said the Minister as quoted by Government’s online platforms.
Eswatini is one of the African countries affected by climate change, this include drought and other natural disasters that resulted to thousands of Swazis in need of food aid.
